Stephen was born in Solihull but has lived in East Anglia since 1979. He attended Liverpool and Essex Universities and has a Bsc in Physics and economics, M.A in economics and a M.Phil. research Degree in Sociology.
He then worked in adult education teaching for a few years before returning to study his law qualifications at the College of Law in London. Stephen passed the Law Society Finals Examination for Solicitors in 1990 and completed his training at Suffolk County Council.
After qualifying as a Solicitor in 1992 Stephen worked in family law in either Essex or Suffolk firms, often legal aid work. He also carried out housing law work from about 1999 and advised regularly on the duty Solicitor rota for repossession cases at Ipswich County Court.
Stephen has been employed at Fairstep Solicitors since August 2001. Since the firm ended its Legal Aid contract in 2012 he taken responsibility for Wills and Probate cases. He passed the Certificate in Trusts and Estates (England and Wales) with a distinction in June 2013. Stephen also deals with Lasting Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection work and has advised on contentious probate cases. He is an affiliated member of the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners.
Outside work Stephen is interested in human rights and is a long standing member of Amnesty International. He is married and enjoys travelling and watching films.
